The Fredericksburg Police Department expects to receive formal accreditation this weekend from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies. City Police Chief David Nye told City Council earlier this fall that the process has been rigorous. Nye says 900 of the department's policies were reviewed and revised. Chief Nye will travel to Salt Lake City for final approval this weekend. He says the city department has met all the standards. He says accreditation should increase community confidence in the police department. Nye says it's taken three years of work to get to this point. He says everyone in the department knows what is expected. He says the next review will occur in three years.
