Fredericksburg (WBQB/WFVA/AP) -- The Fredericksburg Salvation Army is hoping to raise 200-thousand dollars this holiday season from Christmas kettles around the area. Captain Mike Harris says at times last year less than half their available kettles were out on the street because of too few volunteers. This year he's hoping to change that. Last year 135-thousand dollars was raised. Captain Harris says they especially need volunteers to stand with kettles on weekdays. The kettles are out from 10-8 everyday except Sunday and Thanksgiving. The first day is November 20th. Bell ringing does not occur on Sundays or Thanksgiving Day. The Salvation Army asks for a four hour commitment. To sign up call the Salvation Army at 373-3431. Ask for Wendy.
