Joseph Gordon-Levitt May Play NSA Whistle-blower Edward Snowden
Joseph Gordon-Levitt in currently in talks to play NSA whistle-blower Edward Snowden in Oliver Stone’s upcoming biopic. The Snowden Files is an adaptation of Anatoly Kucherena’s Time of the Octopus. The writer is actually Snowden’s lawyer, and as Variety explains, the book is “considered the closest thing to a documented account of the events since Snowden first released the documents.” In case you haven’t been reading the news lately, Snowden is a former U.S. intelligence analyst who released classified documents that revealed details of several covert global-surveillance programs. He is currently living in an undisclosed location in Russia and is seeking asylum for the long-term. If JGL takes the gig, production will start...

Watch: 'A Most Violent Year' Trailer Reveals One of the Worst Years in New York City's History
We were a little disappointed when we found out that Javier Bardem dropped out of J. C. Chandor’s A Most Violent Year—set during the winter of 1981, one of the most violent years on record in New York City. Bardem knows a thing or two about that kind of brutality (hello, No Country for Old Men). But after seeing the recently released trailer for the Margin Call director’s film, we’re feeling hopeful again. Inside Llewyn Davis' Oscar Isaac has since replaced Bardem, starring opposite Jessica Chastain in what looks to be a moody, caustic picture. According to IMDb, the film is “centered on a the lives of an immigrant and his family trying to expand their business and capitalize on opportunities as the rampant violence, decay and...

Fantastic Fest: See 'Horns' Reviewed in Comic Strip Form
If anything, Daniel Radcliffe's post-Harry Potter career has been full of interesting choices. In the latest Stripped, we find out...   Click to enlarge     MORE FROM AROUND THE WEB: ZergNet (function() { var zergnet = document.createElement('script'); zergnet.type = 'text/javascript'; zergnet.async = true; zergnet.src = 'http://www.zergnet.com/zerg.js?id=15794'; var znscr...

The Maze Runner sequel: With The Maze Runner killing it at the box office this weekend, it's no surprise that the next book in James Dashner's YA series has already been kicked into action. The title of the second installment is The Scorch Trials, and 20th Century Fox is not wasting any time getting its adaptation into theaters. On Sunday, the studio announced a release date of September 18, 2015 -- yep, only one year exactly from the first one. On top of that, Fox released the above concept art, which possibly could be a spoiler for the first film's ending. [ComingSoon.net]   Africa: Looks like Angelina Jolie is more of a filmmaker than film actress now. She has the upcoming directorial project Unbroken due in...

Fantastic Fest: 'The Babadook' and 'It Follows' Make the Scariest Double Feature of 2014
Sometimes, being a horror fan means bringing a lot of qualifications into your love of the genre. You start saying things like "That was good... for a stupid, bloody slasher movie." You embrace pleasant surprises and sing the praises of films that even slightly tray outside of the rigid templates that have been in place for decades. Horror buffs know when to shrug off a mediocre film's bad qualities and embrace the handful of elements that work because there are so many tired, derivative and shallow scary movies. What's astonishing about The Babadook and It Follows, both of which played at Fantastic Fest 2014, is how they don't need your pity or your half-assed appreciation. These are two horror movies so confident in their basic storytelling that they could...
