Watch: ESPN is Going Full 'Star Wars' for Halloween Special
Star Wars and the phrase “holiday special” don’t have the best history (as you can see here…), but that isn’t stopping ESPN2’s SportsNation from paying homage to George Lucas’ galaxy far, far away tonight with their Star Wars Halloween Special.
If you’re wondering what ESPN2 and Star Wars have in common, I’ve got no answer -- aside from the fact that Disney owns ESPN – but if we get an opportunity to see Darth Vader, Han Solo, Boba Fett, Chewbacca, R2-D2, C-3PO, and Chopper (from the new animated series Star Wars Rebels), I’m interested.
The show is going all out to celebrate Star Wars, turning the set into a recreation of the Millennium Falcon, and running their usual sports highlight clips with themed category... Read More
What Is the Weirdest Left Turn Taken By a Movie Franchise?
After reading the plot synopsis for Terminator: Genisys today, some of you may have thought it was a very early April Fools' prank. Or a slightly early instance of a Mischief Night trick making its way onto the Internet. Nice job, Paramount, with your equivalent of toilet-papering my house! Good joke, making that title a little less goofy by comparison! But it's real, just the latest act by Hollywood to go totally crazy with a franchise that maybe should have just died a long time ago.
It happens with a lot of them, even the best of them. Franchises jump the shark all the time, but this Genisys thing is beyond that. The Terminator franchise already jumped the shark, a few times actually. I'd say the idea for the T-800 (Arnold Schwarzenegger) to be a good guy in... Read More

Movie News: Michael Bay Readies War Drama '13 Hours'; First Spectacular TV Spots for 'Exodus: Gods and Kings'
13 Hours: Michael Bay is in negotiations to direct 13 Hours, based on a 2012 terrorist attack in Beghazi, Libya that left the U.S. ambassador dead. Chuck Hogan adapted the book by Mitchell Zuckoff; the film focuses on six members of a security team that fought to defend an American military compound. [The Hollywood Reporter]
Robopocalypse: Back in January 2013, Steven Spielberg decided to put the brakes on his planned production of sci-fi action movie Robopocalypse, based on a novel by Daniel Wilson. While Spielberg is currently filming an untitled Cold War thriller with Tom Hanks and will follow that with children's adventure The BFG, Wilson holds out hope that his book will still be filmed. "It’s basically in the queue as far as I know," he said... Read More
The Horror-Slasher Showdown: Who Is the Greatest Horror-Movie Killer?
The horror genre is chock-full of murderers who have nothing better to do with their time than kill every single person who crosses their path. But of all those murderers, which one is, mathematically speaking, the most effective slasher of the bunch?
We made a list of the most famous, brutal and terrifying "slashers" in horror-movie history. And then we cut a bunch of names. And then we cut more names. And then we cut more. Eventually, we were left with 10 names that we think best personify what horror-movie killers are all about. These are the most famous, the most quotable and the most bloodthirsty men to ever wield bladed instruments and slice teenagers into tiny pieces. This is not a definitive list, but it does represent a combination of famous (and beloved... Read More
Comics on Film: Everything You Need to Know About Marvel's Big Phase 3 Plans
Marvel's massive announcement detailing all of its offerings for Phase Three of its cinematic universe likely left a lot of comic book fans absolutely speechless. In addition to new adventures for Thor, Captain America and the previously announced Guardians of the Galaxy, we now have confirmation for films the Internet has been speculating about for months. These include the Inhumans, Doctor Strange, Captain Marvel and Black Panther.
All of this will culminate into not one, but two crossover Avengers films that will finally exploit Josh Brolin's Thanos as the primary villain. This is a lot of news to take in, so maybe the best thing to do is go through each project one at a time (in the order of its release) to break this into something a bit more... Read More
New on DVD/Blu-ray: 'Nightbreed' Gets One of the Best Blu-ray Sets of the Year
Nightbreed: The Director's Cut - Scream Factory - Blu-ray
Director: Clive Barker
Cast: Craig Sheffer, Anne Bobby, David Cronenberg,Charles Haid, Hugh Quarshie. Full cast + crew
The Nightbreed director's cut may be the most interesting director's cuts to come along in a while. On the one hand, we obviously all want to see what a director's original vision for something looked like-- especially if it involves drastic changes from the previously released version of a movie. And that is indeed the case with Clive Barker's preferred cut of his ambitious 1990 horror fantasy movie. It restores a ton of material that never made it into the original version of the movie, and uses alternate takes of some stuff that was already... Read More
Long-Lost Orson Welles Film 'The Other Side of the Wind' May Finally Be Released
In news that is both exciting and terrifying for movie lovers, Orson Welles long unfinished final film could be completed and in a theater as soon as early 2015.
Production company Royal Road Entertainment has acquired the rights to The Other Side of the Wind, Welles’ tale of a filmmaker trying to finish his masterpiece while dealing with Hollywood interference. John Huston, Susan Strasberg, Lilli Palmer, Dennis Hopper and Peter Bogdanovich star in the film, which almost sounds autobiographical.
Welles never finished the feature, but he did have roughly 45 minutes of edited footage at the time of his death in 1985. In the intervening decades, The Other Side of the Wind has been locked in an ownership battle, with Beatrice Welles (the filmmaker’s... Read More

Marvel Studios threw down the superhero gauntlet (literally) this week when it staged a live event to announce the eight upcoming superhero movies that will represent its Phase Three, which will conclude with a two-part Avengers movie titled Avengers: Infinity War, inspired by the popular comic storyline in which our heroes battle the all-powerful Thanos (Josh Brolin) and his infinity gauntlet.
