The Best of 2014: What's the Most Underrated Movie of the Year?
Call me crazy, but I think A Most Violent Year is the most underrated movie of 2014. That may sound absurd, given that it's one of the most talked-about titles right now for Oscar buzz, has already received many nominations for Golden Globes, Independent Spirit Awards and more and was named best fllm of the year by the National Board of Review. But it has a lot of haters, many of whom would declare it one of the most overrated movies of 2014. I just don't get the divide at all. Everything from the script to the performances to the cinematography to the music is exceptional, in my opinion. Another divisive movie that I think is more qualified as being called underrated is Oculus. I've already highlighted this as one of my favorite horror films of the year...

Film Face-off: 'The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King' vs. 'The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies'
It is over. With six films, and approximately 8,754 minutes (if you count the extended editions), Peter Jackson is all done with Middle-earth. First came The Lord of the Rings trilogy, and now The Hobbit trilogy. How do we feel, where do we go from here, and what will become of New Zealand now that the hobbits are moving out of the shire? These are all good questions, but before we can answer any of them let's have ourselves a face-off. This week's Film Face-off is about the thirds. It's The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King versus The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies. To save us some typing time, we're going with LOTR: ROTK and H:BOFA from here on out. The Hobbit The Return of the King Frodo Baggins (Elijah...

Here's Your Last-Minute Holiday Gift Guide: Stop Guessing What to Buy Your Movie Lover
Shopping for movie fans can be hard considering most of us tend to buy our own movies, so it's tricky to not only tell if someone already owns a film, but if they'll even like it. Hopefully we can take the guess work out of that with the Movies.com Holiday Gift Guide. We've put together a list of several dozen movies and movie-related books and TV shows all newly released from the past six months (so the chances are smaller your intended recipient has bought them), and are all good titles that may not be on most people's radars. That means we've left off major movies, because chances are your sister who is a huge Marvel fan already bought Guardians of the Galaxy. However, your sister who loves action movies starring ladies probably doesn't have a...

Watch: If Marvel Teamed with DC on a Movie, Here's What It'd Look Like
Now that we've seen the big superhero crossover movie, fans are hungry for the superhero crossover to up its game. They want to see studios join forces so more superheroes can team up (like Spider-Man in an Avengers movie), but of course the ultimate fantasy -- the biggest, greatest, most epic of all superhero crossover movies -- would be for Marvel characters to appear in the same movie as DC characters.  It'll probably never happen -- okay, it'll never happen -- but heck yeah we want to see what that sucker would look like in the alternate universe where an entire franchise full of these movies already exists. So here's a taste of what that film's trailer might look like; a fan-made creation courtesy of YouTuber Alex Luthor.    What do...

'Focus' Trailer: Will Smith and Margot Robbie Make Con Games Look Sexy
In 2016, Will Smith and Margot Robbie will be appearing as Deadshot and Harley Quinn in the DC Comics supervillain movie Suicide Squad, but you don't have to wait nearly that long to get your first dose of them together as criminals up to no good. The two star in Focus as seductive con artists who get in way over their head, as all con artists in movies tend to do. Directed by John Requa and Glenn Ficarra (Crazy Stupid Love) from their own script, Focus also stars Rodrigo Santoro, Gerald McRaney and BD Wong (who also has Jurassic World coming out, so 2015 is a total BD Wong comeback year, right?). The below trailer is more about showing humor and the dizzying world Smith and Robbie play around in, so to make sense of the actual plot we turn to the official...

This Would Make the Perfect Teaser Poster for Marvel's 'Doctor Strange'
While it's not an official teaser poster for Marvel's upcoming Doctor Strange, this image -- recently tweeted by Strange director Scott Derrickson -- reveals a cool, trippy look at Benedict Cumberbatch as Marvel's newest superhero, with his movie due in theaters on November 4, 2016. Derrickson tweeted the image -- which he later revealed was fan made -- along with a quote from the Talking Heads: "Strange but not a stranger," which is a line from the song "Burning Down the House." Derrickson is one of those filmmakers who finds a lot of inspiration from just surfing through random images online, which was a big part of his research for the movie Sinister and is probably part of his process on Doctor Strange, too. "What I did was I went...

Watch These Great Fan-Made Teaser Trailers for DC's 'Suicide Squad'
We’re still almost two years away from seeing Warner Bros. and DC Comics’ big-screen version of Suicide Squad -- about a team of supervillains assembled to take on various suicide missions in an attempt to win their freedom -- but that hasn’t stopped a couple of industrious Internet fans from crafting their own homemade trailers revealing what they think the finished film will look like. The first comes from YouTuber SoylentBrak1. The clip pulls footage from a plethora of other movies and TV shows (from Arrow to Jack Reacher), but looks good despite the disparate sources. Have a peek at it below and see what you think. It feels action oriented, but also a little somber.   The second clip comes from WhiplashDynamo. This one uses some of the...

Watch: Robin Williams and Ben Stiller Help 'Night at the Museum' Actor Ask a Girl to Prom
So what do you do when you don't really have time to ask a girl to prom because you're too busy filming Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb alongside funnymen like Robin Williams and Ben Stiller? Well, Skyler Gisondo -- who plays Stiller's son in the film -- figured he'd just get Williams and Stiller to help assist in the prom-asking festivities by staging the following funny video while on set.  Yeah it's a cute video and of course she said yes, but what makes it even more special is the chance to watch Robin Williams do his thing. One of the all-time greatest improvisers, Williams naturally upstages the other guys with a number of one-liners and impersonations -- and man does it just make us miss him even more.  "It turned into this...
