Why 'Guardians of the Galaxy' Has the Perfect Movie Soundtrack
There are many things Guardians of the Galaxy has.  -- It has a great story about believing in who you are and what you can accomplish. -- It has a bunch of cool aliens you've never seen before. -- It has a fantastic lead hero whose charisma radiates above and beyond his intergalactic ass-kicking skills. -- It has a Rocket Racoon and a Groot -- two of the most unique, exciting and memorable characters we've seen in years. I'm talking instant-classic kinda characters. How many of you already own their toys and haven't even seen the movie yet? See. Exactly. -- It has a director (James Gunn) whose passion for the material and love for his main characters is not only shown, but felt. A lot.  -- It has this scene. -- It has a lot of nerdy comic...

Watch: A Notorious Version of 'Metropolis' with Music by Pat Benatar, Adam Ant and Freddie Mercury
Electronic music maestro Giorgio Moroder is a hit maker, megaproducer and all-around cool guy. An icon of ‘70s disco and dance era, Moroder stepped back in time to the ‘20s when he composed a unique restoration and edit of Fritz Lang’s Metropolis in 1984. Moroder’s cut featured color tinting, special effects, subtitles, a faster frame rate and an electronic soundtrack with music by Pat Benatar, Billy Squier, Adam Ant and Freddie Mercury. Website Open Culture recently highlighted the film and you can watch it below if you're curious. Lang’s influential film about a class struggle in a dystopian society has timeless appeal, so while Moroder’s blend of pop and art doesn’t exactly fit perfectly with Lang’s vision, it is a truly...

Can You Beat James Franco in a Game of 5-Second Movie Summaries?
James Franco stopped by The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon to celebrate his recently wrapped performance in the Broadway run for Of Mice and Men — which became a midsummer hit and earned more than a million dollars at the box office last week. The guys played a lightning-fast game called Five-Second Summaries, in which they had just a few seconds to summarize the plots to various movies and make each other guess the titles. After dropping a few F bombs and changing the rules about five times, Franco finally got into the swing of things. Fallon’s one-word clue to the actor about Pineapple Express — Franco’s beloved stoner comedy with Seth Rogen — is pretty great. Play along with Franco and Fallon, below. [via Vulture...

'Django Meets Zorro': Where to Find the First-Ever Sequel to a Quentin Tarantino Movie
Comic book imprint Dynamite Entertainment publishes adaptations of popular cult franchises in other media — including the Army of Darkness, Terminator and RoboCop graphic novels. For the company’s 10th anniversary, the publisher is issuing the first-ever sequel to a Quentin Tarantino movie, called Django Meets Zorro. It'll hit stores this November. Website Collider recently spoke with Tarantino and writer Matt Wagner, of Mage and Grendel fame, to discuss their new collaboration. The filmmaker was keen to see issues of racism and oppression he touched upon in Django Unchained, about a freed slave who faces a brutal Mississippi plantation owner in the Antebellum South, in the comic book. “The thing that I thought was such a great idea was...

'The Maze Runner' Trailer: Finally a Different Kind of Young-Adult Movie
Twilight was not the first so-called young-adult book to ever become a movie franchise, but it was most definitely a game changer. Once it started making money hand over sparkly fist, every studio in town started snapping up everything in the best seller section of the nearest Barnes & Noble, and the result has been a rash of movies like I Am Number Four, The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, Beautiful Creatures, Divergent, Vampire Academy, The Host and The Hunger Games. They're all about attractive teenagers with some kind of special talent that makes them a unique part of a world-changing story. Usually there is a love triangle, and a handful of supporting friends, and the bad guys are never singular villains, they're cogs in some larger, institutional structure...

Watch: 'Atari: Game Over' Trailer Profiles the Worst Video Game of All Time
Video games are everywhere these days – a multibillion-dollar industry that rivals the movie business in terms of earnings. But just a few decades ago, the future of electronic gaming was in serious jeopardy. Atari, the king of the video game hill in the early 1980s, nearly destroyed the industry it helped make relevant with the release of a single title: E.T. Zak Penn’s new documentary Atari: Game Over will look back at how hubris, greed and one really subpar licensed game almost killed video games as a form of entertainment. Most people will instantly recognize Penn’s film because it was in the news earlier this year when the crew traveled to a New Mexico landfill where millions of unsold copies of E.T. were buried. The dig was a successful one, proving once...
