San Diego International Comic-Con (SDCC) is looming, and as always, Marvel is demanding all eyes on it as it unveils its updated film-release-date schedule. It’s the hype before the hype; get people talking about what those dates could possibly mean before any announcements are made. The Marvel folks have added five new dates to two previous ones, with nary a title announcement in sight. That brings the total up to seven unknown Marvel films. Let’s dive in! Here are the dates we do know: - Guardians of the Galaxy August 1, 2014 - Avengers: Age of Ultron May 1, 2015 - Ant-Man July 17, 2015 - Captain America 3 (Not the official title, this may get a formal title at SDCC ala The Winter Soldier) May 6, 2016 The...

Film Face-off: 'The Purge' vs. 'The Purge: Anarchy'
While it's technically not 7 p.m. on March 21, we can feel it in our bones. It's the Purge! The night when all crime is legal for 12 hours. That's right, we can download music, swipe a free Coke Zero at the local five and dime, or even rip off all of the tags on our mattresses at home. No consequences. The 2013 film The Purge decided to focus on theft, rape and murder instead of those other crimes. Actually, while it talked about other misdeeds, it really tended to focus on the murder. It scored a 38 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, so why do we have The Purge: Anarchy? So we can do a Film Face-off of The Purge versus The Purge: Anarchy... and because the original made $64 million with a budget of only $3 million.   The Real Plot The Purge...

Attention Movie-Toy Fans: Sweet New 'Iron Giant,' 'Halloween' and Hitchcock Collectibles Are Coming Out
Good old Funko is at it again with a new nostalgia-themed line of toys that is sure to appeal to your inner horror nerd. This series of fright-film baddies, called the ReAction Line, includes killer mini versions of Jason Voorhees, Freddy Krueger, Pinhead, Sam, the Crow, Ghostface and Michael Myers. The product description advises that the line “has a look and style that harkens back to classic action figures made by companies like Kenner.” Don’t mind if we do. Each figure has five points of articulation, just like the old school ‘70s and ‘80s toys, and comes with a fun accessory. You can preorder your own horror villain now and receive it just in time for Halloween (are we there yet?) in September. Also on the pop culture-inspired toy...

Sandra Bullock Goes from Space to the Wild Tupperware Parties of the 1950s
The first social networking didn’t start online. It started at home Tupperware parties during the 1950s. Brownie Wise is the pioneering saleswoman behind the mid-20th century Tupperware Home Party craze. Basically, women invited their friends and neighbors over to their home for a shindig where they presented the latest Tupperware line — a set of popular storage and serving products. It was part social event, part sales presentation, and the marketing plan worked like gangbusters. You weren’t the ideal 1950s housewife unless you had a set of Tupperware. The company is still going strong today. Now, Wise’s life is being adapted for the big screen. Sandra Bullock is set to star in the Sony film, while Tate Taylor (The Help, Get On Up) will produce and...

'The Imitation Game' Trailer: Benedict Cumberbatch Will Help Destroy the Nazis
A lot of people aren’t familiar with Alan Turing – a man who was hugely instrumental in turning the tide of World War II in favor of the Allies – but that will change with the arrival of The Imitation Game this November. Here’s the first clip for the feature. Benedict Cumberbatch plays Turing in the new film – a man responsible for breaking the Nazi’s Enigma Code. That code, once thought uncrackable, was how the Germans communicated and when Turing and his fellow team members solved the riddle of it, the Allies knew everything the Germans were up to. You would think this would have made Turing a national hero, but the mathematician was shunned for his sexuality and his later life was anything but pleasant. The Imitation Game appears set to...

James Gunn Calls 'Planet Hulk' Rumors "Complete Bulls**t"
Recently a big rumor hit the Web about how the ending of Avengers: Age of Ultron would set up a a connection to Guardians of the Galaxy, fueling a previous rumor that Marvel would be adapting the beloved comic storyline Planet Hulk into a movie. That would in turn make Guardians of the Galaxy 2 a crossover movie with Hulk that integrated key elements from that comic line about Hulk journeying to an alien planet. You'll notice that before we did not include a potential spoiler warning before that. That's because it's all complete bulls**t and isn't happening. James Gunn has finally started doing press for Guardians, and he took the first opportunity he could to completely debunk those rumors. And not in a coy, "maybe we will, maybe we won't" kind of...

Jon Favreau May Open an Actual Restaurant Inspired by 'Chef'
Inspired by the food-truck movement and creator of the gourmet Korean taco truck Kogi, Roy Choi, Jon Favreau’s Chef found the actor-director starring as a professional foodie who quits his job and rediscovers his passion for cooking after starting his own food-truck business selling Cubanos. He names it El Jefe. Choi worked closely with the director behind the scenes and helped promote the film by serving up El Jefe’s signature Cubano. Now it seems the sandwich’s popularity has inspired Favreau and Choi to possibly open an El Jefe restaurant. “We're looking into ways of keeping the food aspect going,” the director stated. “So much is made of the Cubano sandwich as a plot point. It piques people's curiosity.” And in case you were...

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt to Get Intimate Again on the Big Screen in 'By the Sea'
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie met while filming the action thriller Mr. & Mrs. Smith, which came out back in 2005, but since then they've pursued separate projects -- until now. The two will star in By the Sea, based on a script that Jolie is writing and will direct. Universal Pictures will release the project, according to Deadline. We first heard about this potential teaming in May, though this is the first we've heard that Jolie would also be directing. Rumor had it that the project might be a relationship drama about a married couple trying to save their marriage. Without providing any details, the official statement about the movie describes it as "an intimate, character-driven drama." Jolie is busy finishing postproduction work on historical epic...

Dwayne Johnson Will Play a DC Comics Hero with All the Powers of Superman
Dwayne Johnson has already played one of the strongest men on the planet in his upcoming action epic Hercules. Now there are rumors that he may take on the part of one of the strongest men in the entire universe for his next gig. The actor -- who’s had lengthy, rumor-inspiring discussions with Warner Bros. and DC Comics -- appears to have finally landed a role in an upcoming superhero film. Johnson had previously been rumored to play antihero Lobo, but that project fell apart. He was also reportedly considered for villainous Black Adam – but that doesn’t appear to be in the cards, either. No, it seems most likely that Johnson will play a hero – and if we were gamblers, we’d bet that the hero is none other than Shazam based on his comments this...

J.J. Abrams' Second 'Star Wars' Set Video Brings Back Two Familiar Hunks of Metal
The first time J.J. Abrams cracked the lid on his Mystery Box for Star Wars: Episode VII, fans unilaterally went nuts. Even the ones who have been rooting for it to fail (or seemingly so, at least, considering how much they complain) could get behind a fun-looking, practical alien that was wandering around the set behind the director. Since then, however, we haven't really had too much official from the world of Star Wars. Sure, there have been set pics and random casting announcements, but nothing super official. Until today, when we got our second set video from Abrams. Once again, this video is part of a charitable endeavor to support UNICEF (donate to their campaign for chances to win Star Wars-related things, including a set visit), and once again it contains proof...
