'Doctor Who' Star Matt Smith Joins the Hunt for 'Patient Zero'
In casting news practically made in geek heaven, we’ve learned that Doctor Who’s Matt Smith will be joining the cast of Stefan Ruzowitzky’s upcoming Patient Zero. Smith will be working alongside Natalie Dormer in the new feature – best known for her work as Margaery Tyrell on HBO’s hit series Game of Thrones.  Talk about nerd-friendly casting… No details on who Smith will be playing in the film, but Deadline has a plot breakdown that reads as follows: “In Patient Zero, an unprecedented global pandemic of a super strain of rabies has resulted in the evolution of a new species driven by violence. An inexplicably immune human survivor with the ability to communicate with this new species must spearhead a hunt for Patient Zero in...

This 'Raiders of the Lost Ark' Candle Might Be the Year's Craziest Holiday Gift
We're stunned no one came up with the idea to make a bust candle of Raiders of the Lost Ark character Arnold Ernst Toht before now. How perfect an idea is that? No need to worry, though – if you have a Raiders fan on your holiday shopping list, this is probably the coolest present you can get them this year. Website Firebox is selling the nifty candle, which re-creates what is arguably the most famous scene in the classic Harrison Ford film (sure, everyone remembers the boulder in the opening, and Indy shooting the guy with the sword, but who can forget Toht’s terrifying demise). After the Nazis open the Ark, all hell breaks loose – and the wicked Toht has his face melt right off his skull... in a completely awesome way! This new candle re-creates that...

Watch 'Market Hours' and 'Operation Barn Owl,' Two Adorable Short Films
The Weinstein Company is known primarily for its big dramas, especially this time of the year when it fills art house theaters with award hopefuls like St. Vincent, Big Eyes and The Imitation Game. But the studioe does occasionally branch out to the smaller screen, and recently it has formed a partnership with Lexus to create some short films that give aspiring feature filmmakers a shot. Though they're dubbed the Lexus Short Films, these movies aren't car commercials in the slightest. They're cute, heartfelt efforts with self-contained stories and the latest entries are Market Hours (from director Jon Goldman) and Operation Barn Owl (from Satsuki Okawa), which you can see below. Market Hours is about a security guard who often gets distracted on the job while...

'The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1' Producer and Director Talk Hiding Panem in America's Ruins, Plus: What's Next
It's kind of unbelievable that after just three films, The Hunger Games franchise can already be talked about in the same conversations as other megafranchises like Harry Potter, James Bond and the Lord of the Rings. When the latest movie, Mockingjay - Part 1, opens this weekend, it's poised to have the best opening weekend of 2014, beating the likes of Captain America and Transformers. That's kind of crazy for a story about a young woman becoming the unlikely figurehead in a rebellion against a tyranical government, but there's just something about these movies that brings in people from all walks of life. Millions of fans have become deeply invested in the fictional life of Katniss Everdeen and the chaotic world she's a part of, and so to figure out why...

Comics on Film: Are Audiences Ready for a Multimedia Superhero Crossover?
The comic book crossover event has become a central element of superhero storytelling. With the modern iterations starting in the mid-1980s with Marvel's Secret War and DC's Crisis on Infinite Earths, roughly every year creative teams from multiple titles come together to try and tell a massive story that affects the entirety of a comic book shared universe -- and in the best cases those stories have led to some widespread change that would affect the storytelling in that particular universe for decades. Today, movie fans are starting to look forward to crossover comic book films, most notably beginning with 2012's The Avengers. That was really the first time that comics storytelling on that scale had successfully managed to jump from the page to...

The Best 'Hunger Games' Characters So Far
At this point in time, we only have two Hunger Games movies to enjoy. That all changes very soon with the release of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay -- Part 1. But even without that movie, this series has given us a slew of great and interesting characters, the kind of characters we can really imagine hanging out with in a number of various real-life situations, many of which don’t involve killing people.   Best Character to Get a Drink With - Haymitch Abernathy Obviously, if you need to get blitzed, this is the guy to get blitzed with. Haymitch’s traumatic past may have turned him into an alcoholic, but he is a fun alcoholic, the kind of guy who can turn his rampant cynicism and distrust into a great one-liner. And since we know he won his Hunger Games, it...

'Zoolander 2' Is Happening and Here's What You Need to Know
As of today, Dumb and Dumber To - a sequel to an absurd, 20-year-old comedy - has been in theaters for less than a week and is already sitting on a box office haul of over $55 million. So when a simple, long-overdue sequel hits big, you can bet that Hollywood is paying attention, and that typically means trying to do something similar. Enter Zoolander 2. The first Zoolander isn't quite as old as Dumb and Dumber, nor did it ever gain the same kind of household recognition, but it's had a very healthy life on DVD, cable and Netflix since it came out in 2001. The comedy, about dumb male models thwarting a plot to kill a politician, has more than a few fans and Ben Stiller is hoping they'll turn out for a sequel. He's not directing this time around (that job goes to...
