'The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1' Producer and Director Talk Hiding Panem in America's Ruins, Plus: What's Next
It's kind of unbelievable that after just three films, The Hunger Games franchise can already be talked about in the same conversations as other megafranchises like Harry Potter, James Bond and the Lord of the Rings. When the latest movie, Mockingjay - Part 1, opens this weekend, it's poised to have the best opening weekend of 2014, beating the likes of Captain America and Transformers.
That's kind of crazy for a story about a young woman becoming the unlikely figurehead in a rebellion against a tyranical government, but there's just something about these movies that brings in people from all walks of life. Millions of fans have become deeply invested in the fictional life of Katniss Everdeen and the chaotic world she's a part of, and so to figure out why... Read More
Comics on Film: Are Audiences Ready for a Multimedia Superhero Crossover?
The comic book crossover event has become a central element of superhero storytelling. With the modern iterations starting in the mid-1980s with Marvel's Secret War and DC's Crisis on Infinite Earths, roughly every year creative teams from multiple titles come together to try and tell a massive story that affects the entirety of a comic book shared universe -- and in the best cases those stories have led to some widespread change that would affect the storytelling in that particular universe for decades.
Today, movie fans are starting to look forward to crossover comic book films, most notably beginning with 2012's The Avengers. That was really the first time that comics storytelling on that scale had successfully managed to jump from the page to... Read More
The Best 'Hunger Games' Characters So Far
At this point in time, we only have two Hunger Games movies to enjoy. That all changes very soon with the release of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay -- Part 1. But even without that movie, this series has given us a slew of great and interesting characters, the kind of characters we can really imagine hanging out with in a number of various real-life situations, many of which don’t involve killing people.
Best Character to Get a Drink With - Haymitch Abernathy
Obviously, if you need to get blitzed, this is the guy to get blitzed with. Haymitch’s traumatic past may have turned him into an alcoholic, but he is a fun alcoholic, the kind of guy who can turn his rampant cynicism and distrust into a great one-liner. And since we know he won his Hunger Games, it... Read More
'Zoolander 2' Is Happening and Here's What You Need to Know
As of today, Dumb and Dumber To - a sequel to an absurd, 20-year-old comedy - has been in theaters for less than a week and is already sitting on a box office haul of over $55 million. So when a simple, long-overdue sequel hits big, you can bet that Hollywood is paying attention, and that typically means trying to do something similar. Enter Zoolander 2.
The first Zoolander isn't quite as old as Dumb and Dumber, nor did it ever gain the same kind of household recognition, but it's had a very healthy life on DVD, cable and Netflix since it came out in 2001. The comedy, about dumb male models thwarting a plot to kill a politician, has more than a few fans and Ben Stiller is hoping they'll turn out for a sequel. He's not directing this time around (that job goes to... Read More

With the monitoring of e-mails and phone calls a hot topic of late, now seems like the perfect time for a new take on George Orwell’s classic novel 1984.
Deadline reports that Sony Pictures is developing the film with Paul Greengrass slated to direct based on a script by Finding Neverland writer James Graham. Scott Rudin is producing, which is a reunion of sorts for Greengrass. Rudin and the filmmaker previously worked on the Tom Hanks film Captain Phillips.
Orwell’s tale about a dystopian future where “Big Brother” is watching your every move has become more and more real thanks to increases in technology and our constant fear of terror attacks in the wake of 9/11. This could be the perfect time for a new version of the classic tale to hit the screen... Read More
Listen to an Alternate 'Guardians of the Galaxy' Soundtrack, Plus: Watch an Epic Dance-Off Outtake
If you just can’t get enough of the Awesome Mixes from Guardians of the Galaxy, James Gunn has a special treat for you today – a new tape featuring fresh tracks that he used to keep extras hyped up between takes.
Awesome Mix Volume 0 was played during the filming of the "Boot of Jemiah" sequence. Gunn explains the whole thing below:
“On lighter days, our master soundman Simon Hayes would also play music on set between takes to keep people’s energy up. He did this while shooting the credit sequence in the Temple of Morag, and he also did it for the Boot of Jemiah, so we could keep the extras hyped and alive and feeling like they were in a bar atmosphere. Being that these were night shoots, it helped to keep people awake as well! Simon... Read More

It started out as a small movie about an all-female singing group, but not long after Pitch Perfect hit theaters it became clear this one was going to take on a life of its own. Nichols began in the theater, and his specialty there was comedy. He and Elaine May, who would later write the scripts to the Nichols movies The Birdcage and Primary Colors, were an award-winning improvisational duo in the early '60s.
That background is surely part... Read More
