Sequel Buzz: 'Terminator: Genisys,' 'Guardians of the Galaxy 2,' 'Step Brothers 2' and More
There’s lots of sequel news to share today – including updates on Terminator: Genisys and Guardians of the Galaxy – so let’s just get right into it.
Filmmaker James Cameron is hard at work on his multitude of Avatar sequels, but it’s a well-known fact that he did some minor consulting on the upcoming Terminator: Genisys. Cameron won’t receive credit for his efforts on the latest entry in the sci-fi franchise, but he has revealed a bit of advice he handed out regarding how to fit a much older Arnold Schwarzenegger back into the franchise.
“I wasn’t interested in producing it or working on it actively, but I did want to put in a good word for Arnold. I pointed out that the outer covering (of the Terminator) was actually not... Read More

James Wan to Direct 'The Conjuring 2' and Potentially a DC Comics Movie
Last week brought news that James Wan had a fantasy of returning to the Saw franchise that launched his career, but for unknown reasons that wasn't likely any time soon. Last week also brought news that Warner Bros. was planning on making 10 DC Comics superhero movies over the next few years. These two news items were seemingly unrelated at the time, except today brings news that potentially wraps everything up in a nice bow.
Deadline is reporting that James Wan will not only be directing The Conjuring 2, which will film in the summer of 2015, but that he's signed a big first-look producing deal with New Line Cinema, which is owned by Warner Bros. Basically this means that the studio will have the first crack at any new projects Wan decides to develop, which can mean more... Read More
Wes Craven Just Revealed These Great Fun Facts About 'A Nightmare on Elm Street'
When we discovered Wes Craven was tweeting some fantastic fun facts about A Nightmare on Elm Street last week, we hit the favorite button until our fingers bled. You can follow along under the hashtag #30YearsofNightmares. We’ve shared a few highlights from his discussion, below.
Released in 1984, A Nightmare on Elm Street was a massive success during its initial run. Creating a terrifying serial murderer who haunted teens in their dreams, Freddy Krueger (Robert Englund) and his razor-sharp glove became the new face of horror that lasted eight films (unless you count the new Freddy in the 2010 remake as well). NOES bridged the aesthetic of the ‘70s slasher era with the anxiety of modernism, making its setting Middle America where a small town’s dark secrets and... Read More
The Insane 'Avengers' Prop Marvel Let Robert Downey Jr. Bring Home
If you were an actor starring in some big, flashy superhero movie, of course you're gonna want to take something home with you--if only to prove to your grandchildren (and great-grandchildren) that you were, like, totally cool back in the day. When it comes to the folks at Marvel, though, they don't like props leaving the set. I've personally been on the set of four Marvel movies, and when the taking-home-souvenirs question inevitably comes up (it always does), the answer is: nope. Not happening. That's because Marvel is very particular when it comes to holding on to every little prop from each of its films, mainly because the studio might need it again for the sequel(s).
Knowing that firsthand, it's surprising to hear this story about Robert Downey Jr., who... Read More
Here's How Close We Are to Seeing Michael Myers Return in 'Halloween III'
It’s that time of the year again – when the leaves turn brown, the air gets chilly, and Halloween candy is crowding the store shelf. There’s really no better time to talk about iconic horror villain Michael Myers, something producer Malek Akkad did recently – giving fans a status update on the long-in-development third film in the rebooted Halloween franchise.
Akkad (the son of original producer Moustapha Akkad) was in Orlando for Universal’s annual Halloween Horror Nights event and he took time to explain where the rumored third film is in the development cycle.
“It’s been a joy to work with so many creative people – 10 films. We’re working on 11 as we speak. We’re working on a script right now. A new draft &ndash... Read More
Movie News: New 'Insidious 3' Photos; Eli Roth's 'Cabin Fever' Getting Remake Using Original Script
Insidious: Chapter 3: New behind-the-scenes photos from Insidious: Chapter 3 suggest that the next chapter in the horror series will be just as creepy as the first two installments. This prequel follows a teenage girl (Stefanie Scott, above) who is targeted by a dangerous supernatural entity. Dermot Mulroney and Lin Shaye also star; Leigh Whannell wrote and is directing. It's due in theaters on May 29, 2015.
Cabin Fever: Director Eli Roth burst onto the horror-movie scene with Cabin Fever back in 2002, and now he's serving as executive producer on a remake -- using the same script he wrote with Randy Pearlstein. Roth says he considers it "like restaging a play." Travis Zariwny will direct, with Gage Golightly (TV's Teen Wolf) leading the cast... Read More
What Are the Best Keanu Reeves Action Scenes?
One of the best action movies of the year opens this Friday, and it shouldn't be a surprise to anyone that it stars Keanu Reeves. For the past 23 years, since riding a wave onto the shores of adrenaline-fueled cinema with Point Break and then soon after steering a bus through its halls with Speed, Reeves has been in some of the most memorable and thrilling actioners of both the 20th and 21st centuries. And of course with The Matrix he bridged the two together with one of the most important entries into the genre ever.
Now, with John Wick, he's in another movie being noted for its action, both in terms of quantity and quality, and fittingly it's codirected by Chad Stahelski, Reeves' stunt double on Point Break and other productions (the other... Read More
Film Face-off: 'Fury' vs. 'Saving Private Ryan'
The musical group YMCA always felt war was good for absolutely nothing, but Hollywood believes otherwise. Countless (we didn't have time to count) movies have been made about the brave men and women who have served our country. This weekend we saw another World War II film hit the big screen, and hit it hard. Fury, directed by David Ayer, is the story of a group of tanker soldiers making a final push into enemy territory.
So, do these men have what it takes to go up against one of the best modern-day war films in Steven Spielberg's Saving Private Ryan? Let's find out in this week's Film Face-off.
Brad Pitt plays Don "Wardaddy" Collier. This isn't his first war... Read More
Watch: 'The Simpsons' Goes Full Kubrick in Latest "Treehouse of Horror" Episode
The Simpsons has paid tribute to Stanley Kubrick more than once in the past, and most famously in its "Treehouse of Horror" episode from way back in 1994 when the show sent its loveable family to become caretakers at Mr. Burns' mansion. Groundskeeper Willie discovered that Bart had the Shinning, Homer went crazy from no TV and no beer, and the rest was TV history.
Now, 20years later, The Simpsons revisisted Kubrick for another "Treehouse of Horror," only this time they didn't limit themselves to just one of the director's movies. They created an entire segment called "A Clockwork Yellow" that transformed Homer, Moe, Lenny and Carl into the main gang from A Clockwork Orange and thrust them into a story that plays out like a...
