June 22nd -- A plea deal is reached in CHRIS BROWN's assault case.  In exchange for pleading guilty to one count of felony assault on RIHANNA, Chris will serve five years of formal probation and six months -- that's about 1,400 hours -- of community labor.  That will likely be in the form of roadside clean-up or graffiti removal, which he'll be able to complete in his home state of Virginia.  In addition, Chris will have to return to California for updates every three months, pay fines, and will be required to attend domestic violence classes.  Los Angeles Superior Court Judge PATRICIA SCHNEGG also ordered Chris and Rihanna to stay at least 50 yards away from each other, except at industry events, where the distance will be ten yards.  Chris will be formally sentenced on August 5th.

June 10th -- Miss California USA pageant officials say CARRIE PREJEAN (pray-ZHAN) has been fired because she violated her contract by failing to make at least 30 scheduled appearances on behalf of the Miss California USA organization.  Similar allegations were raised by state pageant officials the previous month, before Miss USA owner DONALD TRUMP allowed Prejean to keep her crown despite her scandals.

May 12th -- Miss USA owner DONALD TRUMP announces that Miss California USA CARRIE PREJEAN will keep her crown.  Her status as Miss California USA had been in doubt because she failed to disclose to the pageant that she had posed for some racy photos as a teenager.  In addition, Prejean had also spoken at an event for the National Organization for Marriage, which opposes same-sex marriage.  The contract for Miss California USA contestants forbids the winner from making personal appearances without permission.  Prejean initially made a name for herself by stating her opposition to same-sex marriage at the Miss USA pageant, in response to a question from judge and openly-gay blogger PEREZ HILTON.

April 13th -- PHIL SPECTOR is found guilty of second-degree murder in the death of actress LANA CLARKSON at his California home in 2003.  The 69-year-old producer faces a sentence of anywhere from 15 years to life in prison for the murder, plus an additional, three, four or ten years tacked onto that for gun use.  Spector's attorney says they will appeal the verdict.  In the meantime, Spector is remanded into custody.

March 13th -- A Beverly Hills judge issues a warrant for LINDSAY LOHAN's arrest.  The warrant is somehow connected to the probation Lohan received in a pair of 2007 DUI cases.  Her attorney later claims that the warrant was issued due to a "misunderstanding" she hopes to rectify in court.
