This Saturday the there’s a Back to School event for students of Livingston, Robert E. Lee and Berkeley Elementary Schools. There will be free back packs, school supplies, haircuts and snacks.

Livingston Administrative Intern Risa Florip says the atmosphere and bond among those in rural Spotsylvania is different than at some other area schools. “We see generation after generation of families coming thru these schools. It doesn’t seem as transient as some other populations,” she said. Florip says the event isn’t just for families in need. It’s a community-building event for everyone. She says it’s a chance to establish relationships with teachers, administrators, parents and the community.

She says back to school can be costly and stressful. “We want to take some of that stress off the families,” she said. Donations of school supplies or clothes can still be dropped off this week at Livingston. The Saturday event is 10-2 at Livingston Elementary. (Photos courtesy Risa Florip)
