(Fredericksburg)- Religious Freedom Day observed Sunday at the Statue of Religious Freedom on Washington Avenue. The annual event marks Thomas Jefferson drafting Virginia’s Statute for Religious Freedom in Fredericksburg in 1777. The bill was the basis for the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, which states in part, “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.”
The Rappahannock Assembly of the Knights of Columbus holds the annual event. Keynote speaker was Retired Navy SEAL Rob DuBois–the author of “Powerful Peace.”religious freedom
