Special Alert Interstate 95 Prince William County
 
Interstate 95 Southbound
(New) Saturday, April 29 ˗˗ Monday, May 1, 9 p.m. ˗˗ 6 a.m. Interstate 95 southbound will be reduced from three lanes to two lanes near Exit 156 in Dale City. Crews will be conducting large-scaledeck repairs to the bridge over Neabsco Creek. Ramps from eastbound, westbound Dale Boulevard to southbound I-95 will be closed, along with the car-only safety rest area. Congestion and delays are expected to be extensive. Drivers are urged to avoid southbound I-95 in Prince William County. If possible, use alternate routes.
 
Stafford County
 
Interstate 95 Northbound
(Update) Monday – Friday,  9 p.m. –  4:30 a.m. Interstate 95 northbound will be reduced to two lanes between Exit 140/Courthouse Road and Exit 143/Garrisonville Road while crews will continue building foundations needed to install overhead signs connected with the I-95 Express Lanes Southern Terminus Extension project. 
 
Route 607 (Cool Springs Road) at Route 3
(New) Tuesday, 9 p.m. Crews will begin re-striping this area. New pavement markings will allow drivers to access the left turn lanes from both lanes on Cool Springs Road approaching Route 3 (Kings Highway). There will be no change to the existing far right lane movement. This change will enhance safety at the intersection, shorten traffic back-ups, and provide a more balanced lane use of Cool Springs Road. Motorists should expect brief delays this week at the intersection.
 
Route 610 (Garrisonville Road) at Onville Road
Sunday – Thursday, 8 p.m. – 5 a.m. Motorists can expect brief delays and single alternating lane closures on Garrisonville Road for paving and final construction activities at the Onville Road intersection. Lane closures will be mobile, and the traffic pattern will shift as work progresses.
 
Route 610 (Garrisonville Road)
Monday ˗˗ Friday, 7:30 p.m. ˗˗ 5 a.m. Motorists can expect alternating single lane closures overnight on Route 610 (Garrisonville Road) from Shenandoah Lane to Travis Lane. This work is connected to the Stafford County widening of Garrisonville Road.
 
Route 644
(New) Friday, 8 a.m. ˗˗ 4 p.m. Motorists should expect brief delays and flagging operations on Route 644 (Rock Hill Church Road) for guardrail repair approximately two miles south of Route 610 (Garrisonville Road).

Spotsylvania County
 
Interstate 95 Northbound
(New) Monday, 9 p.m. ˗˗ 4:30 a.m. Two lanes on I-95 northbound at the Ni River Bridge will be closed to allow crews to continue the bridge improvement project. The Ni River Bridge is located at mile marker 121, just north of Exit 118/Thornburg. Crews anticipate a full traffic stop for approximately 15 minutes at midnight. All lanes will be reopened by 4:30 a.m. Motorists should expect overnight delays.
 
Route 3
(Update) Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Crews will be milling the pavement on Route 3 from the Spotsylvania County line to Route 640 (Black Meadow Road). Motorists should expect alternating lane closures in this area.
 
Route 17
(New) Thursday ˗˗ Friday, 8 a.m. ˗˗ 7 p.m. Crews will be will be replacing the lens on the snow plowable pavement  markers at various locations on Route 17 (Mills Drive) in Spotsylvania County. Motorists should expect brief delays and should be alert to slow moving vehicles in this mobile work zone.  
 
Route 620 (Harrison Road)
(Update) Tuesday, 3 a.m.  Westbound Route 620 (Harrison Road) traffic, west of Route 1, will be shifted slightly left onto new pavement around 3 a.m. Tuesday.  Drivers can expect brief traffic stops over a 30-minute period as westbound traffic is transitioned onto new pavement.

Monday ˗˗ Friday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Motorists should expect brief delays and intermittent, single lane closures on Route 620 (Harrison Road), as construction continues to build new turn lanes and improve the Route 1 and Harrison Road intersection
 
Route 632 (Hickory Ridge Road) and Route 1
(New) Monday ˗˗ Friday, 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. Route 632 (Hickory Ridge Road) will be closed to through traffic between Route 1 and Route 608 (Massaponax Church Road) to allow crews to install two culvert pipes underneath the road. All lanes on Route 1 will remain open during the work zone. Residents living on the closed portion will be permitted to enter the work zone to access their homes. 
 
Route 710
(New) Friday, 8 a.m. ˗˗ 7 p.m. Crews will be will be replacing the lens on the snow plowable pavement  markers at various locations on Route 710 (Bragg Road). Motorists should expect brief delays and should be alert to slow moving vehicles in this mobile work zone.  
 
Lancaster Gate
Tuesday ˗˗ Friday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Milling and paving work will continue in the Lancaster Gate subdivision. Motorists should be alert for mobile, single lane closures, and for crews and equipment.

(Update) Sunday − Tuesday, 9 p.m. – 5 a.m. Lane closures for installation of overhead signs at the bridge. Double lane closure on I-95 northbound between 10 p.m. and 1 a.m. Double lane closure on I-95 southbound from 1 a.m. to 5 a.m.
 
Mary Washington Boulevard at Fall Hill Avenue Roundabout
(Update) Motorists are reminded that the new section of Mary Washington Boulevard that intersects with Fall Hill Avenue in a roundabout is now open to traffic. Through traffic on Mary Washington Boulevard is now free flowing, which means Mary Washington Boulevard traffic will not stop at the Sam Perry Boulevard and Hospital Drive intersections. Be alert to the new traffic patterns in this area. 
 
Fall Hill Avenue
Monday, 9 a.m. – 7 p.m. Motorists should expect intermittent single lane closures and flagging operations at intersections as crews install pavement markings on Fall Hill Avenue between Gordon W. Shelton Boulevard and Rappahannock Canal.

Route 207
(New) Thursday, 8 a.m. ˗˗ 4 p.m. Motorists should expect brief delays and single lane closure on eastbound Route 207 (Rogers Clark Boulevard) for guardrail repair near the Route 648 (Sunshine Road) intersection.
 
Route 301
(New) Thursday, 8 a.m. ˗˗ 4 p.m. Motorists should expect brief delays and single lane closure on northbound Route 301 (A.P. Hill Boulevard) for guardrail repair approximately five miles south of Route 17 (Tidewater Trail).

Expect brief delays on the bridge and at the bridge approaches.

(New) Thursday, 8 a.m. ˗˗ 4 p.m. Motorists should expect brief delays and a single lane closure on northbound Route 17 (Tidewater Trail) for guardrail repair near Route 654 (Rectory Road).

Route 360
(New) Monday, Wednesday ˗˗ Friday, 7 a.m. ˗˗ 5 p.m. Crews will be making deck repairs to the Route 360 bridge over Moncuin Creek located approximately three miles north of the Hanover County line. Motorists should anticipate alternating lane closures and brief delays.
 
Essex County/Richmond County
 
Downing Bridge Inspection
(Update) Sunday – Friday, 9:30 p.m. – 5:30 a.m., Route 360 on the Downing Bridge will be reduced to a single lane overnight for bridge inspection. Motorists should expect alternating lanes closures and brief delays on the Downing Bridge this week.  Crews will be inspecting the bridge which crosses the Rappahannock River between Richmond County and Essex County near Tappahannock.
 
Middlesex County/Lancaster County
 
Robert. O. Norris Bridge
Monday, 7 p.m. ˗˗ 6 a.m. Motorists will be restricted to one lane on Route 3 at the Norris Bridge as overnight as crews make concrete repairs to the bridge deck travel surface. Automatic flagging stations will control one-way traffic.
 
Lancaster County
 
Route 200
Tuesday ˗˗ Friday, 7:30 a.m. ˗˗ 5 p.m. Traffic will be reduced to a single lane on Route 200 (South Main Street) near Route 607 (Goodluck Road) and Route 3. Flaggers will direct motorists through the work zone. Expect brief delays for this utility and permit work for Dominion Power.
 
Northumberland County
 
Route 201
(Update) Monday ˗˗ Thursday, 7 a.m. ˗˗ 7 p.m. Motorists should expect brief delays on Route 201 for milling between the Northumberland/ Lancaster county line and Route 642 (Knights Run Road). Flaggers will direct motorists through the work zone.
 
Route 202
(Update) Monday ˗˗ Tuesday, 7 a.m. ˗˗ 7 p.m. Motorists should expect brief delays on Route 202 (Hampton Hall Road) for a paving operation between Westmoreland/Northumberland County line near the Hampton Hall Creek bridge to Route 360 (Northumberland Highway). Flaggers will direct motorists through the mobile work zone.

Highway Improvement Projects
 
City of Fredericksburg
 
Fall Hill Avenue Widening and I-95 Overpass Replacement Project 
Construction is underway on the Fall Hill Avenue widening and I-95 overpass replacement project. Motorists should expect lane closures and brief delays on Fall Hill Avenue between the Rappahannock Canal bridge and Carl D. Silver Parkway (Central Park), as well as on Mary Washington Boulevard.
 
Route 1 Bridge Rehabilitation Project at Hazel Run
Work to improve the Route 1 bridge over Hazel Run in the city of Fredericksburg is underway. The bridge is located on Route 1 between Idlewood Boulevard and Kings Mill Drive. Motorists should be alert to construction equipment and crews working along the shoulder until early spring. All travel lanes will be open in the work zone. The bridge rehabilitation project is expected to be complete in May 2017.
 
Stafford County
 
95 Express Lanes Southern Terminus Extension
Construction is underway to extend 95 Express Lanes in Stafford County. The approximate 2.5 mile extension will carry traffic beyond the flyover ramp where 95 Express Lanes currently end, just north of Exit 143/Route 610 (Garrisonville Road). The new southbound exit ramp is scheduled to open by early 2018, and the northbound entrance ramp will open in summer 2018.
 
I-95/Route 630 (Courthouse Road) Widening and Interchange Relocation
Preliminary geotechnical work is underway on a project to improve the I-95 interchange at Exit 140 (Route 630/Courthouse Road). The project includes building a diverging diamond interchange at Exit 140, relocating the Courthouse Rd. and Rt. 1 intersection to the south to align with Hospital Center Boulevard, widen Courthouse Rd. to four lanes, and add a traffic signal at the entrance to Colonial Forge High School. Construction to widen Courthouse Road will begin in summer 2017, and the entire project is expected to be complete by summer 2020.
 
Route 610/Onville Road Intersection Improvement Project
Construction is underway at the intersection of Route 610 (Garrisonville Road) and Route 641 (Onville Road) to build additional turn lanes. Project completion is May 2017.
 
Route 610 Widening Project
Stafford County is widening Route 610 from four to six lanes between Onville Road and Eustace Road. Utility relocation is underway.
 
Spotsylvania County
 
Route 606 (Mudd Tavern Road) Interstate 95 Overpass Replacement and Road Improvements
The project to build a new I-95 overpass on Route 606 (Mudd Tavern Road), provide improvements to interstate ramps, Mudd Tavern Road east of I-95 and Mallard Road is underway. Motorists should be alert to construction crews and equipment on I-95 between mile marker 119 and Exit 118 (Route 606/Thornburg), Mudd Tavern Road, and Mallard Road. Construction for the $22.4 million project is expected to be complete by September 2019.
Route 1 and Route 620 (Harrison Road)
Construction to build additional turn lanes and extend existing turn lanes is underway at the intersection of Route 1 and Harrison Road. Motorists should be alert for construction crews and equipment. Project completion is May 2018.
 
Route 1 and Route 632 (Hickory Ridge Road)
Construction is underway at the intersection of Route 1 (Jefferson Davis Highway) and Route 632 (Hickory Ridge Road) to improve traffic flow by adding and extending turn lanes. Motorists should be alert to crews working along the shoulders at the intersection. Project completion is July 11, 2017.
 
Route 622 Bridge Improvement Project
Route 622 (Fairview Road) just west of Route 601 (Wallers Road) will be closed to through traffic for a bridge improvement project. The bridge over Northeast Creek is located between Wallers Road and Lewistown Road.  A detour will be in place for approximately six weeks while construction is underway. Crews will be replacing the existing bridge’s steel beams, deck with new timber, steel and guardrail, while also making repairs to the vertical walls and foundation. Motorists should follow signs along the recommended detour.
 
 
Caroline County
 
Route 17 and Route 301 Intersection
Crews are upgrading the existing signal equipment at the intersection of Route 17 (Tidewater Trail) and Route 301 (A.P. Hill Boulevard).  The modernized signal equipment will be fastened to mast arms from signal poles and will be aligned properly with the travel lanes. Most construction work will occur outside of travel lanes until spring 2017. The project is expected to be complete in fall 2017.
 
Caroline County/King George County
 
Route 301 at Rappahannock River
Bridge rehabilitation is underway on the James Madison Memorial Bridge over the Rappahannock River. Maintenance will occur below the bridge deck and includes repairing concrete, replacing bearings, shoring up rip-rap on the slope, and replacing navigation lights. All lanes are currently open on the bridge, but single lane closures will be in place periodically. Project completion is October 2017.
 
Caroline County/King and Queen County
 
Route 721 (Newtown Road)
Construction is underway to build a new bridge over Beverly Creek at the Caroline County and King and Queen County line.  Motorists are restricted to a single lane controlled by a temporary traffic signal in the work zone. The project is expected to be complete in July 2017.
 
King George County
 
Route 218/Route 206 Intersection
Crews will be working to install a new traffic signal at the Route 218 (Caledon Road) and Route 206 (Dahlgren Road) intersection. Most construction work will occur outside the existing travel lanes until spring 2017. Project completion is fall 2017.
 
Gloucester County
 
Route 662 (Allmondsville Road) Bridge Replacement
Crews are replacing a structurally deficient bridge on Allmondsville Road over Fox Creek. The road is closed to through traffic at the bridge during construction. Motorists should follow the posted signs along the detour route. The project will be completed in April 2018.
