About 6 million people in the United States – or 1 in every 50 people in this country – have an unruptured brain aneurysm. The annual rate of ruptured aneurysms in the United States is about 8 to 10 in 100,000 people, or about 30,000 people a year. Every 18 minutes, a brain aneurysm ruptures. Awareness of brain aneurysms is critical to saving lives and better patient outcomes. The incidence of brain aneurysms is higher than most people realize.
Austen Dunn, a Fredericksburg native and graduate of FA and W&M, passed away suddenly from complications of a massive ruptured brain aneurysm in September 2016, at the young age of 23. Her loss has been devastating to her friends and family, Our goal is to raise awareness and funding to further the study of this awful medical condition that affects so many people, and to support other families that have had similar experiences.
