Caroline Community Theatre will be holding auditions for John Cariani’s ALMOST MAINE. Director, Daniella Macklin-Soto, is requesting auditions consist of cold readings from the script. No prior experience necessary!

CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS:
PETE – Awkard but Sweet Guy, who’s been dating Ginette for a little while
GINETTE – Sweet, Hopeful and Affectionate Girl who’s been dating Pete for a little while.
EAST- a lovestruck repairman, confused to see Glory, but happy nonetheless.
GLORY- a tourist hiker who is camped out in East’s yard. She is chatty, and a little sad.
JIMMY, a heating and cooling guy, struggling to cope with his feelings of loneliness, and self-loathing after being dumped.
SANDRINE, his ex-girlfriend who is uncomfortable to run into him on a night out.
WAITRESS, a warm and sympathetic hostess
MARVALYN, a woman who is very good at protecting herself, at an unhappy time in her life she is still defensive, caring, and curious.
STEVE an open, kind fellow whose brother protects him as he cannot feel physical pain. Innocent, but not dumb. Curious about Marvalyn.
GAYLE, in a long-term relationship with Lendall, Angry over a long-term commitment with no follow-through.
LENDALL, in a long-term relationship with Gayle. Stoic, and a Matter-of-Fact man, but not un-feeling
DEENA (LGBTQIA+), Best Friends with Shelly. A Country girl, Sassy, Bold, Extroverted, Outdoorsy, No-Nonsense.
SHELLY(LGBTQIA+), Best Friends with Deena, Country Girl, Outdoorsy, Confused, More Reserved than Deena.
PHIL, a hard-working husband, Quarrelsome, Overworked, Frustrated with his wife for not being honest with her feelings.
MARCI, his hard-working wife, struggling with feelings of being lonely, angry with her husband over him isolating himself, Hopeful.
HOPE, who has traveled the world, has come back to her hometown for love. Talkative, Well Put-together.
MAN, Inquisitive, Reserved, not the man he used to be, but not unhappy with the man he is.
RHONDA, a tough woman, who is playful, and tomboyish, Struggles with her femininity. Best Friends with Dave.
DAVE, the not-so-tough man, who loves Rhonda. He is patient with her, showing his artistic side. He is sensitive and charming
While there are certain traits the actors must portray, it has become evident over multiple performances that the script allows for flexibility of the interpretation and embodiment of each role.
