Join Xi Upsilon Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® for a pre-recorded virtual 2021 Cultured Pearls Cotillion on Saturday, November 20, 2021. This year’s theme is “Poised and Polished Pearls.” After months of leadership, cultural and community service activities, 15 stellar young ladies will make their debut.
About the Cotillion
The Xi Upsilon Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® was chartered in 1983, with one of its major goals being the presentation of young ladies in the area to society. Thus, a formal Debutante Cotillion was organized. To date more than 250 young ladies have been ushered into society through this “social event of the year.”
As a major fund-raiser for community projects and area scholarships, the Cotillion, through the Sisters of Ivy Educational Foundation, Inc. also provides Debutante scholarships, which have ranged from $500 to $14,000. The highest fundraiser is crowned Miss Debutante. Her court consists of the next three highest fundraisers who receive plaques and flowers. Miss Academic is awarded to the Debutante with the highest-grade point average among the Debutantes.
Ninety-seven percent (97%) of the Debutantes presented have entered colleges and universities in pursuit of baccalaureate degrees. The Chapter delights in acknowledging their awards and accomplishments.
The goals of each Cotillion have been to promote scholarship in young women, to prepare young ladies in the social graces and cultural acumen, to present young ladies to society, and to raise money for Xi Upsilon Omega Chapter’s community service projects and academic scholarships to support young women attending colleges and universities.
