The Fredericksburg Area Museum is pleased to announce a new family workshop series, FAM Fun! Families with elementary aged children are invited to discover the museum in a new light. Each workshop features exciting educational crafts, STEM challenges, interactive gallery activities, and a sneak peek into FAM’s collection. FAM Fun! will take place on Wednesdays in June at the FAM (907 Princess Anne St.) in two different sessions – one between 9am -12pm the other between 1:30pm – 4:30pm. Each session will have a theme based on objects and stories found at the FAM. Families can sign up for one, two or all three of these intergenerational workshops.
The FAM Fun! schedule is as follows:
Let’s Go on a Trip! (June 8th): Come on vacation with the FAM and discover how people traveled in the past! In the early 1900’s, families could take a steamboat from Fredericksburg to Baltimore. Families will create and test their own boat at the FAM and much more!
Let’s Play! (June 15th): A lot has changed over time, but one thing hasn’t changed: families having fun. From teddy bears to baseballs and board games, FAM’s collection contains many toys. Families will invent their own game to take home.
Let’s Go to the Fair! (June 22nd): Uncover stories about community celebrations! Did you know that Fredericksburg had a carnival on the Rappahannock River? Pleasure Island was a carnival underneath the Chatham Bridge! Families will learn about this carnival, create their own carnival with take-home games and prizes.
FAM welcomes all children accompanied by an adult over the age of 18. This program is FREE and open to the public. Due to limited spots, participants must RSVP.
